Due to limited access to materials during COVID, I sourced materials from home, and some fibers to spin yarns.

Hand-spun yarns with fibers dyed at home:

  1. flax, cotton 2. cotton, silk, wool 3. wool

Fabric samples using different techniques:

  1. Disperse dye on cotton: inspired by the upgrowth of the plants, I manipulate the color transition by ironing.

  2. Reactive dye (resist dyeing) on cotton: crumple resists dye the fabric for organic shapes to mimic the leaves, and, before untying, add drops of yellow dyes for subtle shading.

  3. Disperse dye on non-woven fabric, treated with resist dyeing and fire: focusing on the observation of negative space within plants.

  4. Reactive dye on cotton with clamp and folding resist dyeing: fold and resist dye the fabric with a leaf shape stencil.

  5. Reactive dye on cotton with tie-dye: untie and tie-dye multiple times with different dyes to reach the variation.

  6. Disperse dye heat transferred on polyester: draw dye solutions on paper with mark making, and then layer them differently and heat transfer the drawing to the fabric with an iron.

  7. A piece of felt made of acid-dyed wool and reactive-dyed cotton: using soap water, rolling everything in sushi roller with bubble wrap.
